New Faculty & Staff Information Sheet

Welcome!

Below you will find useful tips/information to help you onboard as new faculty/staff.

UC Merced Connect

UC Merced Connect (connect.ucmerced.edu replaced my.ucmerced.edu as of 12/2020) is your digital gateway to UC Merced.

The Connect platform offers simplified access to campus information and resources for students, faculty and staff, as well as prospective students, external partners and the general public.

Here's just a few of the features Connect offers:

  • A mobile app to easily access campus resources on the go
  • A modern, robust campus events calendar
  • A new way to receive campus alerts and news
  • A streamlined interface to access information directly from departments across campus

Payroll

Faculty/Staff are required to complete new hire paperwork with our payroll department on or prior to their first day. The Personnel office will take care of submitting an appointment request on faculty/staff's behalf. A representative from the payroll department will contact faculty/staff with a scheduled appointment time and will provide additional information regarding employee orientation.

UC Path Portal

  • To access your employee information and complete most employee-related transactions, log in to UCPath Portal.
  • More information may be found at:  https://ucpath.ucmerced.edu/

Time Reporting System (TRS) - not applicable to faculty

  • This is a secured web-based time reporting system for employees to electronically enter, review, and submit their timesheets.
  • You may complete timesheets in the TRS system at: https://trs.ucmerced.edu//
  • Information on how to complete and submit your timesheet may be found at:   https://ucpath.ucmerced.edu/ucpath-trs

Parking

If you plan to park on campus, you must purchase a permanent parking pass from TAPS.

In-Person Visit to TAPs:

  • New faculty/staff can park in the 30-minute parking zone of the Le Grand Lot directly across from the Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS).
  • TAPS will need an ID (personal ID, as you do not have a school ID yet) and the department you are with.

For more information on bus services to the university: https://taps.ucmerced.edu/transportation

Map/Location

  • TAPs is located in Facilities Services Building A, behind the Science & Engineering 2 building on the corner of Mineral King Road and Facilities Loop.
  • A campus map indicating TAPS location may be found at: https://ucmerced.box.com/v/campusmaptapspolice

Any questions, please contact TAPS at (209) 228-8277.

    UC Merced Net ID

UCM Net ID is your "username" for your email account and for accessing UC Merced's online services such as your webmail, calendar, portal, etc..

When your appointment is processed by Payroll Services, the system will generate a UCM Net ID.  OIT will let you know when the ID is created so that you may claim (activate) your account.

    CatCard

    The CatCard serves as:

    • your official UC Merced Identification Card.
    • a key that can be used to gain access to certain locked buildings on and off-campus.
    • a balance card - load money onto your CatCard to use Cat Dollars anywhere on campus (i.e. all Dining Services operations, the Campus Store, the laundry facilities in Housing, to print and copy in the Library, and more).  This applies to all active students, faculty, and staff. When you log into epay, you will see Cat Dollars as the primary plan associated with your CatCard account.

    Obtaining a CatCard

Upon completion of hiring paperwork, you should receive an email (usually within 48 hours) confirming your ID number and active status in payroll.

More information may be found at: https://catcard.ucmerced.edu/

    Business Cards

    Health Plan

Information on the different health plans may be found at:

      Mandatory Training

All UC Merced employees are required to complete mandatory training – found at: https://ethics.ucmerced.edu/mandatory-training

      • Security Awareness Training: All UCM faculty and staff are required to complete the Cyber Security Awareness Training. New employees are required to complete the training within 6 weeks. Additional information may be found at: https://it.ucmerced.edu/cyber-security-awareness-training/
      • Sexual Harassment Prevention Training: A comprehensive sexual violence/sexual harassment prevention training program is now required for all UC employees. New employees are required to complete this training within 6 weeks of their start date.

      UCM Alert

The UCM Alert system allows the police department to send immediate mass notifications to the campus community via email and text messages.

It's EASY and FAST - please take 3 minutes to register for UCM Alert in the steps below:

      1. Log into idm.ucmerced.edu.
      2. Scroll down to the UC Merced Alert tab at the bottom.
      3. Enter your name, phone number, and email.
      4. Save, and it’s done.

By default, UCM Alerts goes out to every UC Merced email address and university-issued cell phone.  We encourage you to register your personal cell phones and/or email addresses with the UCM Alert system to receive emergency campus notifications.  When you register all of your email addresses and cell phone numbers with the UCM Alert system, you’ll receive critical safety information during potential emergencies on or near campus properties. Messages include the nature of the emergency and the recommended actions to ensure your safety. This is the only direct method of communication between you and the university in emergency situations.

If you need further assistance or clarification, please call the Campus Police Department at 209-228-8273.

        Employee Ergonomic Evaluation

        • As a new employee, you are encouraged to complete the UCM ergonomics assessment to prevent or lessen the effects of repetitive motion and/or injuries.
        • The online assessment module and further information may be found at: https://ehs.ucmerced.edu/general-safety/ergonomics
