Why UC Merced?

I chose the University of California, Merced due to many reasons. For starters it was the only university within 40 miles from where I live that had the major that I was interested in (Mechanical Engineering). I did my research on Faculty support for undergrads and was amazed from the reviews I read. Knowing that I was going to to go into a University where professors actually took time to teach us with precise during lecture hours but also opened doors to their office hours where anyone could attend to learn more about a topic that was not understood during lecture. I also read online that most professors are involved in critical research topics of their interests and I thought that it could be a great opportunity for me to go into a research of my interest (Engineering). Overall, I am beyond blessed that I got to attend UC Merced.

Why Your Major?

Mechanical Engineering can be considered “The Jack of all Trades” when it comes to engineering majors. I personally did not know what I wanted to do during my senior year of high school but I was sure it was going to be Engineering related. When I learned that opportunities were endless with a Mechanical Engineering degree I was hooked. I had 4 years to truly understand what field of Engineering I want to go into (Controls) thanks to the fact the Mechanical Engineering program at UC Merced allows you to dip your feet in mostly all the Engineering fields and that is what lead me to like Controls Engineering the best.

Inspiration and Mentors

My inspiration comes from my Mom and Dad who sacrificed everything they left in Mexico to allow my siblings and I for a better and bright future. I am forever in debt to them for giving me the opportunity to get a higher education. I also want to thank the Mechanical Engineering professors at UC Merced for never making you feel not good enough whenever a simple question is asked.

Memorable Academic Experience

My most memorable Academic experience has to be when I was taking Thermodynamics and the professor (Abel Chuang) was telling us that this was going to be the hardest class we ever take, he then proceeds to say “First things first, class picture!” And took a picture with everyone in the class.

What's Next?

After graduation I plan to apply to anything related to controls. I want to work with PLCS or PIDS. Retire and Live on Hawaii.

Anything else?

Thank you to all the friends I made along the way.
