Why UC Merced?
I have found UC Merced to be full of so many great opportunities. Whether it be connecting with faculty, engaging in research, or finding great friends: if you put your mind to it, you will find it here. Also, I love that Merced is so close to the mountains, allowing me to connect with nature and go on weekend adventures.
Why Your Major?
After graduating high school, I had great interest in both medicine and engineering and wanted to explore both avenues. I found bioengineering to be the perfect intersection of my passions. This major allowed me to study such a wide variety of disciplines and taught me to think in many different ways. For these reasons, I am grateful for choosing bioengineering.
Inspiration and Mentors:
My biggest inspirations in Merced have been all of my friends I've made here. They are all such amazing people who have inspired me to live life to the fullest. Also, I am forever grateful for my family who are so supportive and who I love very much!
Of course, I am thankful for all the BIOE faculty for supporting me through my educational journey, especially Professor Victor Munoz and Omar Herrera PhD for the valuable research experience, and Professor Shrinivasan who I've worked with on the BIOE002 labs.
Memorable Academic Experience:
I can't think of any time specifically, but I can remember countless lectures where I was entranced by whatever we were learning about. Maybe I'm just a nerd... but I loved pretty much all my classes! Some classes I really enjoyed in particular were vector calculus,
biothermodynamics, and my organic chemistry classes.
What's Next?
I am planning on applying to medical school this June, so hopefully I will be studying medicine starting Fall 2027. In the meantime... I'm going to relax. I am going to hang out with family and friends, work a bit as a Nursing Assistant, and see if I can squeeze in some travel plans. You will also find me rock climbing with my good friend Hadrien or backpacking in the middle of the woods. Life's short and I'm planning on enjoying it. :)
