Electrical Engineering

The field of Electrical Engineering (EE) has revolutionized human lives and continues to do so at a faster pace, e.g., electrification, electric vehicles/trains, autonomous vehicles, electric devices and gadgets, cell phones, Internet, integrated chips, computers, TVs, and the list goes on. After waking up, the first thing we do is to turn on lights, the last thing is to turn them off and in between, use all kinds of electric gadgets.

EE is an important, essential discipline in engineering. It provides knowledge for designing, constructing, and analyzing electrical and electronic systems which have broad and deep impact on a wide range of domains. EE is one of most popular disciplines in engineering and more than 10% of all bachelor’s degrees awarded by engineering in the USA are EE.

Our Electrical Engineering undergraduate degree program at UC Merced provides foundational skills in electrical engineering with a focus on those most sought by employers in California both today and also those anticipated in the future. The program also covers important emerging topics like clean energy, renewable energy, electric vehicles, high-capacity rechargeable batteries, etc.
