Shared Governance

The academic governance of the School of Engineering (SoE) at UC Merced is administered through the following four committees:

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee consists of the Dean of the School, ex-officio, and up to the larger of the number of undergraduate programs and seven (7) voting members of the faculty, elected annually, a vice-chair, and a chair. The responsibility of the Executive Committee is to consult with and advise the Dean on all aspects of the school’s academic administration, including budget and fiscal matters, faculty recruitment and mentoring, research, and student recruitment and success.

Academic Personnel Committee

The Academic Personnel committee consists of a chair and a co-chair. The charge to this committee is to form ad-hoc committees for academic performance evaluations, and make sure faculty recommendations are delivered to the Dean in a timely manner, consistent with timing requirements determined by the Academic Personnel office.
 
The 2016-2017 members are:

Effective July 1, 2015, Prof. Paul Maglio was appointed Associate Dean for Academic Personnel to oversee the School of Engineering's academic personnel staff in managing the processing of academic performance evaluations.

Curriculum Committee

The Curriculum Committee is responsible for monitoring student success in SoE majors and courses; coordination and recommendation of new and revised courses; school planning for new majors and emphasis tracks; provisioning of estimates of future enrollments and instructor needs for strategic planning; and assisting in planning and information gathering related to accreditation. The Curriculum Committee reports and makes recommendations to the faculty and the Dean relevant to these functions and responsibilities. This committee should seek to have membership from all undergraduate programs and graduate groups.

Resources Committee

The Resources Committee consists of a chair and two members. The committee is charged with making recommendations to the Dean as to needed resources to support education and research.
