Join naturalists on an easy stroll through the UC Merced Vernal Pools and Grassland Reserve to observe plants, mammals, birds and other animal life.
Coyote and brush rabbits are often seen. A golden eagle may even be spotted. Bring a day pack with water, a camera, hiking boots and a hat. The path may be wet and muddy so come prepared for the elements (rain shell/water resistant boots).
The 6,500 acre reserve is adjacent to campus, and the entrance gate is at the intersection of Ranchers Road and Ansel Adams Road, 50 yards north of hte Student Services Building, on the UC Merced campus.
Meet at 8 a.m. sharp at the entrance gate. The walk will last approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
The walk is free and open to all, but is limited to 20 people, by reservation only. A second hike will be offered later in the month.
A waiver will be required for all non-UC attendees and will be provided at the beginning of the hike.
